*The Great Potato Competition*

Volunteers from Amesbury Rugby Club and Amesbury WI visited Kings Gate Primary School and Amesbury Archer primary school on the 27th June for the great potato weigh-in competition. Part of the Impact 25 programme aimed at bringing local communities together.

Children from both schools had worked hard nurturing their potato seedlings and watching them grow. Excitement and nerves were building in anticipation of the results.

Pippa, Ayla and Tabitha from Kingsgate unearthed their crop and were surprised and happy to see the amount of potato’s they had grown. A total weight of 3.5kg! Amazement ensued. Their biggest single potato weighed in at 135 grams. Well done girls.

Both schools plan to cook up the spuds next week and enjoy the fruits of the children’s labour.

King's Gate school were the overall winner. Both schools will be awarded prizes as a thank you for their hard work and participation in the project.

A great example of the positive impact we can have in the community beyond rugby and WI. Plans are in discussion to see where we can continue to support the schools.
