Year 4
Welcome to Terms 5 and 6
Anglo Saxon Boy
Our key text this term will be Anglo-Saxon Boy by Tony Bradman.
This exciting historical story follows Magnus, a young boy living in Anglo-Saxon England, whose life is changed by the struggle for control of the country in 1066, including the Battle of Hastings. Through Magnus’s journey, pupils will explore themes of courage, conflict, loyalty and survival during a time of great uncertainty.
In our wider curriculum work, we will be learning about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, exploring why there was a struggle for England and how this led to significant events in British history. Pupils will develop their understanding of kingdoms, invasions and key figures such as Edward the Confessor and William the Conqueror, alongside building their map skills and knowledge of the United Kingdom. This unit will help children make connections between history, geography and literature, while developing empathy and a deeper understanding of how Britain has been shaped by its past.
